What to know first

  • Tatkaal is faster because police verification happens AFTER issuance; you pay an extra fee.
  • For Tatkaal you pay the Normal fee online; the additional Tatkaal fee is cash at the PSK.
  • Online payment is mandatory before you can book an appointment.
  • Aadhaar works as both POI and POA if it validates against UIDAI.

How to do it

  1. 1Register on the Passport Seva portal, verify email, log in.
  2. 2Apply for Fresh / Re-issue; choose Normal or Tatkaal; fill the e-form.
  3. 3Pay and Schedule Appointment (payment mandatory before booking).
  4. 4Visit the PSK/POPSK with originals + one self-attested photocopy set; biometrics on site.
  5. 5Re-issue (expiry/pages/particulars/lost): same flow; lost/damaged needs a police report/affidavit.

What you need to bring

  • POI/POA — Aadhaar (dual-use), or voter ID/PAN/DL/utility bill/bank passbook
  • DOB proof — birth cert, matriculation cert, PAN, Aadhaar
  • Re-issue: original old passport + self-attested copy of first/last pages
  • Minors: both parents' passport copies + Annexure D
