Fees

I-90 $465 paper / ~$415 online; I-751 $750 [confirmed 2024 fee rule — verify on uscis.gov/feecalculator; FY2026 inflation may apply]

Processing time

I-90 ~8–14 months; I-751 ~18–40 months (June 2026) — check egov.uscis.gov/processing-times

How long it lasts

Standard card 10 years; conditional 2 years

What to know first

  • Filing I-90 extends card validity 36 months via the receipt; filing I-751 extends status 48 months.
  • A 2-year conditional card CANNOT be 'renewed' — you must file I-751 (filing the wrong form is a costly mistake).
  • Status itself doesn't expire when the card does, but keep a valid card for travel/work.
  • File I-90 ~6 months before expiry; file I-751 in the 90-day window before the conditional card expires.

How to do it

  1. 1Renew (10-yr, I-90): file online/mail ~6 months before expiry → receipt extends card 36 mo → biometrics if scheduled → new card mailed.
  2. 2Remove conditions (2-yr, I-751): file in the 90-day pre-expiry window (jointly or with waiver) → receipt extends status 48 mo → evidence of bona fide marriage → biometrics/interview if required.
  3. 3Replace (lost/damaged/error): file I-90 (free if never received or DHS error).

What you need to bring

  • Completed I-90 / I-751
  • Copy (front+back) of current card
  • Filing fee or waiver request
  • I-751: evidence of bona fide marriage (joint financials, lease, kids' birth certs, photos)

In person

Nearest USCIS field office / Application Support Center (ASC) for biometrics; filing is online/by mail
